James Dace & Son Ltd is a well-established family run music business based in Chelmsford, Essex.

We can proudly say that we are one of the oldest music shops in the country, opening our doors in Chelmsford in 1852, where we have had a shop ever since. James Dace Pianos Ltd is now based in Colchester and can be reached on 01206 791935.

A local musician and well-established teacher, James Dace, started the shop in 1852, and the first shop was in London Road. We are still based in Chelmsford, now located at 22 Broomfield Road, where we continue to be an established part of the local community.

For over 155 years James Dace have been meeting the demands of professional musicians, teachers, schools, colleges and students alike by supplying some of the finest brands in orchestral instruments and classical, acoustic and electric guitars and also boasting one of the largest stocks of sheet music in the south east region. We are fully stocked with classical, vocal scores, folk, jazz, blues, contemporary and popular music, along with a wide selection of educational publications, examination books and papers

In addition the new premises now benefit from both a rehearsal room where customers may test out instruments, which houses the latest equipment, and we also have a dedicated repair/service room.
